Florals

Last week, I visited Marché Jean Talon before having dinner at Brama (the best Italian food. Ever!). I decided to do a little layering and make use of a skirt I haven't worn since I was 16. Check it out!

These are a couple of shots taken from the summer in Yorkville, Toronto. I can't wait for the summer weather to begin again. I wore a new piece I got from my trip to Hong Kong, as well as old favourites like my black silk shorts.

Singapore Shopping: Haji Lane

Tucked away inside the Muslim Quarter, one can find Singapore's most eclectic shopping area, Haji Lane.  Rivaling New York's Meatpacking District or Le Marais in Paris, Haji Lane boasts a collection of narrow shophouses that overflow with hip and of-the-moment fashion at rock bottom prices. From girly-chic to grunge, there's guaranteed a store to suit every fashionista's taste.

Exclusive local designers showcase their clothing in store.

Probably the raunchiest store I've ever been in, O-Mighty sells apparel that your parents definitely won't approve of. Visit their website store to see what they're about - very punk/grunge/idgaf and definitely a tumblr-ish design. Plus, they offer free worldwide shipping, so why not?

Crazy steals like this are common, so don't be surprised if you come home with more than a few shopping bags!

Unique decor makes Haji Lane a must visit.

Spring 2013: The Top Ten

After a flourish of fashion weeks in the greatest cities in the world (cue New York, Paris, London, and of course, Montreal), Spring is brimming with new trends that are sure to revamp your wardrobe. Here are the top ten.

1. Serious Stripes
Feeling too timid to try some of fashion’s most daring trends? Never fear, spring’s big, bold, uncomplicated stripes certainly took a prominence on the runways. Worn with denim, they’ll be classic girl-next-door, with navy, they’ll be nautical, worn head-to-toe, (in moderation!) you’ll be the star of the show. Make sure your stripes are minimal and slim; ones that are too big won’t be chic!

2. Peekaboo Pieces
This season, you won’t have any problems finding the perfect date night outfit – daring cutouts, sky-high slits, and sheer fabrics are all the rage. Designers like BCBG and Diane von Furstenberg loved this trend, and you can be sure to find more cutout pieces at Topshop, Editorial, or online at ASOS and NastyGal.

3. Put Your Back Into It
A plain sweater can transform into a fashion statement when there’s a little detail at the back. In Aritzia’s new spring collection, back detail is just brimming off the shelves! Whether it’s a scooped, low-cut back or just a slit from the bottom, you’ll be sure to steal the spotlight. Local retailers such as Zara, Urban Outfitters, and Forever XXI have taken on this sexy trend as well. The best part? There’s a cutout for every body shape (and level of modesty) for all fashionistas.

4. Amazing Lace
After countless seasons of hype both on and off the runway, lace continues to be a major fashion trend. Used both as a subtle accent or the main attraction, it can be suited to any style. Go for the Kate Middleton, classic ladylike lace look, or channel your inner Rihanna and wear it as an edgy, provocative (nonexistent)? piece of clothing.

5. Statement Sunglasses
As the sunny days get longer, a pair of sunglasses is not only protects your eyes, but is a huge style statement. This season, sunglasses in every shape and size hit the runway, each one even bolder than the last. Even the plainest of outfits will walk out in style with a pair of edgy sunnies. Beyoncé’s Prada Baroque sunglasses are one of the most notable this season – so why not channel your inner Queen B?

6. For the Love of Ruffles
Flirty ruffles are everywhere from sleeves to hemlines on the spring runways of Balenciaga, Ralph Lauren, and Gucci. Used thoughtfully and in unexpected ways, the latest ruffle trend isn’t only for the typical girly-girl. The latest ruffle, which we call the anemone neckline (since it resembles the flowers of the same name), makes ravishing waves that outline the entire neckline of dresses and tops.

7. Fresh Floral
The freshest of flowers are no longer simply muted or hidden in abstract prints. This season, bright and bold floral prints were blooming at full capacity on spring’s runways. For an off-the-runway look, try silk floral shorts or an edgy black top with floral embellishments. Look for this fresh trend at Forever XXI, BCBG, and aritzia.com.

8. Luxe Leather
Always a classic, a luxe leather piece is a definite spring staple for your wardrobe. Minimal and chic, the newest leather pieces that stormed the runway looked modern and of the moment. Invest in a leather skater skirt or a peplum top for that extra fashionista mile. Find this trend at American Apparel or online at Nasty Gal.

 9. Black and White
Spring trends may typically consist of pastels and delicate prints, but this season, designers like Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang and Jason Wu shone the spotlight on strong black-and-white looks. Fitting to wear all year round, easy to pull off at any price tag, and sleek enough to go from your evening lecture to a hot date, this trend is the definition of wearable.

10. Pointed Toes
Sexy ‘90s pointed toes are back, and have been modernized with dainty ankle straps and ladylike heels. Tired of your four-inch pumps? Re-invent your spring wardrobe with a pair of these shoes with slouchy boyfriend jeans or Bermuda shorts to brunch with your girlfriends.

Marc Jacobs: Diet Coke's New Creative Director

Believe it or not, Marc Jacobs has been named the new creative director of Diet Coke. The designer has been signed for one year as it celebrates its 30th anniversary, following in the footsteps of fashion giants Karl Lagerfeld and Jean Paul Gaultier. Jacobs will be designing a limited edition set of bottles and cans. In celebration of Diet Coke's three decades, the designs will illustrate female empowerment through the 80s, 90s and "Noughties".

"I feel very privileged to be the new creative director of Diet Coke and put my stamp on the 30th anniversary campaign," said Jacobs. "Diet Coke is an icon - and I love an icon."

To mark the arrival of Marc Jacobs, the brand has released a humorous, tongue-in-cheek video seen here:

Designer Spinoff

A recent trend surfacing the fashion industry are spinoff tees of major designers including Céline, Givenchy, Hermès, and Comme des Garçons - Models like Cara DeLevingne and Jourdan Dunn have have been spotted wearing their Homiés beanies off the runway by Brian Lichtenberg, and SSUR's tee "Comme des Fuck Down" has been quite prominent as well. Whether they are paying homage to the giant fashion houses or not, designers are pushing the boundaries with more than just a play on words.

Dying to get your hands on them? Montreal's Editorial Boutique is selling beanies and sweatshirts by Brian Lichtenberg. Find them on 1455 Rue Stanley.

Crazy About Cara

Taking the fashion world by storm, Cara Delevingne is more than just an ordinary model of the moment. A prominent face in this year's New York, Paris, and London Fashion Week, it wasn't her bold eyebrows and sharp features but her quirky and crazy personality that won me over.

Cara's instagram (@CaraDelevingne) is full of her onesies, beanies, and funny faces. She's real and seems like somebody I would want to be friends with. Her interviews are hilarious, such a fresh veer away from the typical model-posh personality. She's friends with Rita Ora, whom she fondly calls "wifey" (how can we not love her for that), and has twitter interactions with Miley Cyrus as well (another dynamic duo?).

Her debut British Vogue cover came out on newstands in the UK in late February, while I've been waiting patiently for mine to come in Montreal. Everyone wants a piece of Cara, and who can blame them?

She's the new face of Burberry Body Tender, the campaign which can be seen here:

Christopher Bailey, Burberry Chief Creative Officer discusses Cara and Burberry Body: "Burberry Body was always about creating something that captures all the different characteristics of the Burberry girl. With Body Tender, we wanted to explore and bring out the softer, more playful sides of her — capturing this light femininity in the scent as well as the campaign. Cara’s natural beauty and vibrant energy lit up alongside London’s magnificent architecture."

This girl is blowing up the world of fashion.

The only question that rises from my mind is, why did she choose to be a VS Angel? I think she's much too high fashion for that. Thoughts?
