Drama for Louboutin

Christian Louboutin is suing Yves Saint Laurent for their use of red soles. This comes without surprise - everyone knows red soles belong to Louboutin and Louboutin only!

The company trademarked the red sole in 2008 and has reportedly asked YSL to refrain from using their signature colour.

This doesn't come as a surprise - in 2007 the label sued Oh Deer! for their use of the red soles.

Lancome's New Face

It’s official – Emma Watson is the new ambassadress of Lancome! She was spotted working with fashion photographer Mario Testino in Paris. No surprise there, the previous model with Burberry is definitely a beauty. Move over, Julia Roberts!

Pray for Japan

As many might have heard, Japan has experienced a devastating earthquake of a scale of 8.9, triggering a tsunami. This has harmed many in the country. May everyone’s prayers be with the Japanese, and I hope they will have a quick recovery. I visited Tokyo last summer, and it is absolutely gorgeous. I have a good friend there, and I immediately tried contacting her once I heard the news. Much to my relief, she’s doing fine. Please donate at http://www.redcross.org.

Topshop in Canada!

Today might just be the best day of my life. Okay, a bit of an overstated fact, but a fact nonetheless. TOPSHOP, my all time favourite British fashion store, has been confirmed to hit Toronto. It’s been confirmed that Hudson’s Bay Company has bought the rights to open Topshop, and they’re planning to launch 50 stores in Canada, starting with Toronto! The joys of living in the best city in the country;)

London Fashion Week

Paul Smith, Burberry Prorsum and Matthew Wiliamson were definitely my faves of London Fashion Week.
I love the boy-meets-girl minimalist style that is carried out effortlessly by Paul Smith, the classic Burberry Prorsum (although this season, they’ve traded their signature double breasted buttons for toggles) and Matthew Williamson, playing with beautiful hues of bluish gray.

My Fashion Piece (ENG 4U1)

Apologies for the lack of posting, I have been SO swamped with schoolwork.
I was assigned a package of essays to be completed on Friday, and of course, I left them all for Thursday night. Quite disastrous, and I will NEVER put myself through that again. However, I’d like to share my best piece of work with you, (out of the four, that is). Enjoy!
The Ins and Outs of 2011
Tight jeans and leggings are all the rage this year. For men with a brave and daring fashion sense, skinny jeans will do. The rendezvous with the past year’s ultra tight, derriere flaunting yoga pants is quite out.
Chunky, fairisle sweaters from your grandmother’s closet are very in. So are retro band tees and crop tops that showcase your (preferably toned) midriff. Throw away all the t-shirts you own screaming ABERCROMBIE or HOLLISTER!
Vintage crossover bags sporting distressed leather are very in. So are Longchamp bags (we’ve finally caught on to European fashion, although they may now consider it passé). Handbags adorned with logos and anything else overly showy is out, so you can bury those at the back of your closet. V-necks and Pashmina scarves are also out. Accessorizing to your heart’s content is back – rings and bracelets, whether sterling silver or stringed, oversize or delicate, are very in.
Long hair is still in, but kiss goodbye to side bangs and side parts, and say hello to the middle part – but only if you can pull it off. Lip stain is the new lipstick, and it’s time to look fresh-faced, not washed out. Bring in everything dark, especially in nail polish: plums, mahoganies and blacks are all the craze.
Everything organic is the latest fashion in food, so run to Whole Foods and embrace your inner tree hugger. Multi-grain, whole wheat and natural is what you must have this season. Bid adieu to the high-fructose, ultra saturated danger foods of the future!
Crazy outfits and crazier music videos are in among the celebrities. Hello, Lady Gaga’s unforgettable outfits (Alexander McQueen heels, anyone?) and Ke$ha’s metallic eyebrows. Gone are the low key outfits and subtle music videos. Britney’s back (or at least, she’s trying to be), but don’t hold it against her. Anything avant-garde is a winner – think Salvadore Dali meets Marc by Marc Jacobs. In the cinemas, 3D movies are all the rage. So are 3D televisions, should you wish to indulge in this craze at home.
Having an iPod is standard already, but do you have the iPad? PlayStation3 and Call of Duty are very in among the boys, while teen dramas Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl are in for the girls. Think BlackBerrys are only for businessmen? Think again. These smartphones now belong to thousands of teenagers who worship Blackberry Messenger: instant text messaging at rocket speed.
Facebook is overrated! It’s time to get a blog, so join the Tumblr bandwagon – especially if you have artsy photos to showcase.
Yes, artsy is in – but not as in as attending an arts school.

Ode to OPI

I just painted my nails with Linkin Park After Dark, the polish I was dishing about in the previous post. It’s honestly beautiful, the stark colour in the bottle doesn’t do it justice. On the nail, it’s a deep plum colour that is absolutely amazing! It’s just the colour I was searching for – an eggplant, almost-but-not-too-black! I’m really happy with this, but I have to remind myself NOT to be too OCD about small imperfections on the nail. I topped it off with my Essie Super Duper Topcoat, and I’ll let you know how it looks in a week!

Black Shatter

OPI's Katy Perry Collection with Black Shatter
Upon scouring the Internet for new OPI shades, I came across the new Katy Perry collection along with a collaboration with Serena Williams. The Katy Perry collection is quite tiny, with four colourful, sparkly shades and the Serena Williams collab sports only one nail polish (no pun intended). However! Most interesting out of these is the new crackling nail polish Black Shatter, a top coat which cracks upon application. It’s quite interesting, and apparently sold out in many locations. I don’t know if i’m a fan though, it seems like the luck of the draw for it to turn out perfectly. What do you think?

Colour Me Pretty

Linkin Park After Dark
I’m dishing on my latest beauty purchase – a gorgeous mahogany, plum-but-almost-black colour from OPI. I’ve heard that it’s quite a fan fave, so many of you nail polish diehards may have heard of the name: Linkin Park After Dark. I absolutely lovelovelove their nail polish names, so creative and catchy. Wow, the people who create them must be uber talented, how I wish I bore that kind of gift! Other colours I have from OPI are A Good Man-Darin is Hard to Find, a bright, popping orange colour from the Hong Kong collection, and Rumples-a-Wiggin’ from the Shrek collection, a pretty pastel Lavender.
It’s a beautiful vampy colour that isn’t too black, steering clear of that sometimes excessive punk look. So classy, a definite winter must have!

Stress Week

Enter exam week: feelings of regret, remorse and anxiety take their turn as one realizes that they are, for lack of a better word, screwed. This person being me, that is. I’m panicking and begin the questioning of my previous behaviour in this semester: that in this case, can only summarize in one word – laziness! Reading a whole French novel in less than three days whilst  all your classmates have been finished for a while = not good. Especially when this French novel has zero plot and is painfully boring.
So, in honour of this meticulously neverending week, I’ve compiled a playlist. Enjoy!
I Can’t Lie – Maroon 5
Dry Your Eyes – The Streets
Naive – The Kooks
Good Life – One Republic
Misery (Acoustic Version) – Maroon 5
For The First Time – The Script
Stadium Love – Metric
Marry You – Bruno Mars
Trouble – Lenka
Love You More – JLS
Hello – Martin Solvieg ft. Dragonette

iPad

I’ve finally updated my iPad! Found the WordPress app for it, but unfortunately it disappointed me, with only a “bad URL” message greeting me every time I opened it. I’m thinking of adding another blog to my collections, a more personal one with my own thoughts. I already have a blogspot one, but I’m really liking the wordpress blogs a lot more. Crossing over to the dark side, as you can see!
Well, so far I’m really loving this iPad. It’s got a beautiful interface and gorgeous display. The speed is exceptionally fast and I’ve already updated all my iPod's music onto it.
I also love the spacious keyboard on the iPad. It’s so easy to type on, and usually I am very wary of touch screen keyboards. The only thing that gets on my nerves is the autocorrect, correcting my words when I don’t want it to and vice versa.
As for the care of my iPad, I have placed an order for the dodocase in green. So excited for it to come, should be here by Saturday and I’ll post a review and pictures as well.

Silly Band Craze

Whoever said the silly band craze was on its way out did not see Marc by Marc Jacobs‘ newest release. The designer takes the childish rubber bracelets to a whole new level: five multicoloured rubber bracelets with a cutesy gold charm as a finishing touch. How could anyone resist?
I was lucky enough to receive a set of these swanky bracelets for Christmas. I'll be accessorizing them with my silver bracelets.
